Adding Users to a User Category

Whenever a new user is created, they’re automatically assigned to the default category. You can edit the user account and update the user category. You can assign a user to only one category. If you’re creating new users using Security Console, you can also assign a user category at the time of creation itself.

There are three different ways to add users to a user category:

  1. Create a user category and add users to it
  2. Add users to an existing user category
  3. Specify the user category for an existing user

Note: You can also use REST APIs and HDLs to load user categories.

Create a user category and add users to it

  1. Navigate to Tools >> Security Console and click on User Categories > Create:

  1. On the next page click Edit:

  1. Specify the user category details and click Save and Close.

  1. Click the Users tab and click Edit:

  1. Click Add and In the Add Users dialog box, search and select the user, and click Add:

  1. Continue adding users until all required users have been added, then click Done:

Add users to an existing user category:

In the Security Console, go to User Categories and select the existing user category to open it. Follow all the remaining steps from step# 4 above.

Specify the user category for an existing user:

  1. In the Security Console, click Users:

  1. Search and select the user for whom you want to assign/change a user category. Click Edit:

  1. Select the required User Category and click on Save and Close:

  1. Click Done.

Note: You can delete user categories if they are no longer needed. However, you must ensure that no users are associated with the category before proceeding with the deletion. If there are users linked to the category, you will not be able to delete it. On the User Categories page, click the X icon in the row to delete the user category.
