Reassign Versus Delegate in approval tasks
What is the difference between Reassign and Delegate in approval delegations?
Difference Between Reassign and Delegate in Approval Tasks
When approval tasks are reassigned, the entire approval hierarchy is replaced with the hierarchy of the person handling the reassignment.
For example, if an approval rule has the hierarchy A1, A2, and A3, and A1 is on leave, a vacation rule is setup to reassign the task to B1. In this case, the approval hierarchy for B1 (B1, B2, B3) will replace the original hierarchy, and the task will follow the path of B1, B2, and B3.
Original Approvers: A1 >> A2 >> A3 After Reassignment: B1>> B2 >> B3
On the other hand, when approval tasks are delegated, the task is transferred to someone else, but the original approval hierarchy remains intact.
For instance, if A1, A2, and A3 are in the approval hierarchy and A1 is on leave, a vacation rule is set to delegate the approval task to B1 then the approval path will still follow the original hierarchy of A2 and A3 after B1’s approval, meaning the process will go through B1, A2, and A3.
Original Approvers: A1 >> A2 >> A3 After Reassignment: B1>> A2 >> A3
An Example here:
Delegation:
Manager Hierarchy: B >> A >> S
When the approval rule is delegated from Mr. A to Mr. Test while Mr. A is on leave, the approval path to “S” remains unchanged.
Reassign:
Manager Hierarchy: B >> A >> S
When the approval rule is reassigned from Mr. A to Mr. Test while Mr. A is on leave, the approval path to “S” is also updated to Mr. Test’s manager.
